After graduation from the University of Sydney in 1971 Rick came to work at the Wollongong Veterinary Hospital becoming a partner in the practice in 1973 until leaving in 1995 to establish the Austinmer Veterinary Hospital.
Keen to support his professional organisation - the Australian Veterinary Association - Rick has done so in many diverse roles over the years including; 2 terms of State President and 3 years on the NSW Vet Surgeons Board Investigating Committee, earning the honorary accolade of Fellow of the Association. Rick also sat on the NSW Board of the RSPCA for 5 years and contributed to much-needed management change in that organisation.
The Helensburgh Veterinary Clinic was acquired in 2006.
Rick says “I enjoy the modernisation of diagnostic and treatment techniques and the sophistication of current veterinary practice. I am supported by a fantastic team of vets and nurses who make an invaluable contribution to the development of the two practices. I also enjoy my current role at the University of NSW as a veterinarian on their Animal Care and Ethics Committee, which is extremely stimulating and exciting watching the progression of knowledge.”
Home life is shared with very supportive wife Roslyn, a dedicated member of the team, one manic Labrador, a very cute miniature Dachshund and one talkative cat…but, over the years, just about every conceivable animal type has shared in lodging at the Prowse house.
